About

Maggie Tucker"Whenever and however you intend to give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body and your spirit for the rest of your life."

Ina May Gaskin

Motherhood took my breath away! I never knew that anything could be so fulfilling and wonderful. Giving birth naturally transformed my life. Nurturing my sons to manhood was the greatest joy of my life. Now they have grown and I have become a doula. Since 2001, I have had the joy of nurturing birthing mothers and their loved ones in hospital, birth center and home births.

My journey began as a volunteer at UCSD Hearts and Hands Volunteer Doula Program. While there, I became a DONA (Doulas of North America) trained and certified birth doula. In 2009, after completing the HypnoBirthing® Support for Doulas training class, I became a HypnoBirthing® doula. I also became a certified HypnoBirthing® educator.

I am a member of DONA (Doulas of North America), the HypnoBirthing® Institute and San Diego Birth Network. San Diego Birth Network is a group of dedicated professionals who support mothers, babies and families during the prenatal, birth and post partum period.

People often ask me, "What does a doula do?" I always answer, "A doula mothers the mother." A doula provides continuous informational, physical and emotional support before, during, and right after birth. Doulas do not perform any clinical tasks or assessments. On our journey together, we work as a team to protect the natural birth you desire. It is about your birth, your way.

I provide information so you can make informed choices. I encourage you to believe in yourself to trust this journey where you will discover your own inner strength. I nurture you through the challenges of becoming a mother and provide comfort along the way.

Giving support to your partner is also important. Doulas do not take the place of your loved one but rather become a support person for him as well. Supporting him empowers him to help you. Together, the three of us navigate through this miraculous, transformative, empowering, unpredictable and unique event.

Every birth is a treasure. Every baby is a miracle. The birth of each family is truly a Blessed Event.

"It is not the making of babies but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth."
